Modular Residual Current Protection, Even with DC Components.
Residual current devices (RCDs) of Type A are widely used in mobile power distribution and provide reliable protection – but only as long as DC fault currents remain below 6 mA. If the DC fault current exceeds this value, a Type A RCD can saturate (“blind”), leading to a complete loss of function and thus no personal protection.
A typical risk arises from modern, frequency-controlled devices such as fans, spotlight ballasts, or motor controllers. These can generate not only 50/60 Hz currents but also high-frequency and smooth DC fault currents – currents for which a standard Type A or F RCD no longer provides adequate protection. In such cases, a Type B RCD is recommended, but it is expensive and not always necessary.
Efficient Solution for Mobile Applications – The INDU-ELECTRIC RCD Type MI offers a practical solution for exactly these challenges. This technology can be integrated into any Power Distribution Unit.
